I started posting photos of my sketches on Flickr in an effort to get in the habit of drawing more frequently. It has worked.

Many of my recent drawings are portraits — I love the human face. Take a good look at the next one you see.

Stylization

I’ve stylized a couple drawings using a vectorization program called autotrace. Here is a rough summary of the process, using the drawing depicted in the sequence above as an example.

  1. Initial photo of drawing
  2. Increased contrast
  3. Black & white threshold
  4. Vectorization (PDF)
    autotrace -corner-threshold 20 -filter-iterations 15 threshold.pbm > vectorized.eps
  5. Final image
